Almost perfect
You make plans, make pretty plans
For your life, for your heart
Think you got things all sorted out
But what happens
When it all falls apart
I made these plans
I made them with you
You made them too
Now it looks as though
They're never coming true
I wish I could go
To that house we imagined
I wish I could come home
To that family we planned
I wish I could make it
All fit together
And not slip away like
Grains of sand
You could call it
Almost perfect
You could call it
Lost is the word I'd reserve
For this feeling
Feeling like a coward
There's no heat in my apartment
And I'm getting colder by the hour
I wish I could go
To that house we imagined
I wish I could come home
To that family we planned
I wish I could make it
All fit together
And not slip away like
Grains of sand
You could call it
Almost perfect
You could call it
Almost perfect
first saw Hilary when she toured Europe with Low in 2019, saw her 4 times on that tour. extraordinary. latest LP, Birthmarks, sees her on the edge of music. utterly perfect hatteroid
This is absolute genius. Each song has its own unique mood, but what they all have in common is that they take their time, allowing the lush, patient, dazzlingly imaginative arrangements to gradually blossom. There are a dizzying variety of instrumental textures, pleasure and wonderment around every turn. I'm getting hints of Will Oldham circa "Arise Therefore," though that album is much more spare. Proof that "experimental" doesn't necessarily mean noisy. Joe Madden
