lyrics
For you
Aching
You got my body quaking
Like a lost dog
Like a lost
Something
Inside of you is fading
And but for your talk
I'd think you'd caved in
I never pray for myself these days
I never pray for myself these days
Dot dot daze
I'm afraid of your silence
Our best days behind us
So much love yet above
It resigns us
Our darkness still finds us
I never pray for myself these days
I never pray for myself these days
I never pray for myself these days
I never pray for myself these days
Postcard
You say how many times
Can a heart break
Like how much can one person take
I never tried to take from you
At least I never intended to
You're stepping out to smoke
But I don't wanna get cold
You're still going alone
And I will be left here on my own
And I can see you through the glass doors
Breaking through the pain
Like a sturdy man I once saw
In a western of some fame
And I try to make you laugh
But you often buck in tears
Saying you don't know what
You're gonna do
When you can't be here
Every sentence
Is a road to reality
And every word
Is a turbulent torch
But I will break
Your cold blue doors
And try to give you my warmth
Send me a postcard
Make it funny
Make it something
Only I would get
So I know you still get me

This is absolute genius. Each song has its own unique mood, but what they all have in common is that they take their time, allowing the lush, patient, dazzlingly imaginative arrangements to gradually blossom. There are a dizzying variety of instrumental textures, pleasure and wonderment around every turn. I'm getting hints of Will Oldham circa "Arise Therefore," though that album is much more spare. Proof that "experimental" doesn't necessarily mean noisy. Joe Madden
